The heartwood of ash is distinct in color, consisting of light and dark heartwood, with clearly visible annual rings. Its natural pattern is a unique characteristic, but it's not the only one. Ash wood is hard and heavy, making it durable and robust in use. Its unique, marbled character makes ash a stand-out wood that adds life to living spaces.
Ash is often referred to as the "chocolate praline of trees" due to its elegant hardwood. It thrives in alluvial forests and along streams. Ash is a tall and elegant deciduous tree that can live up to 300 years and grow up to 40 meters in height, making it one of the tallest deciduous trees in Europe. After about 70 years of growth, the heartwood of the tree starts to darken and this creates a unique color pattern of light and dark wood in the finished floorboard.
Our ash wood primarily originates from forests in Germany and neighbouring France. The tree is a majestic sight and catches the eye, and not just on the outside. It is a particularly hard and heavy wood, and can be up to two metres in diameter.
Our team of foresters chooses particularly fine grown and nearly knot - free logs, which are then manufactured into high quality solid or engineered flooring. Click here to discover our reference projects!

Ash engineered floorboards
Hiram Habitat's ash three-layer engineered boards are a more functional alternative to solid ash wood planks. Due to their reduced thickness of 17 or 21 mm, this wooden floor can be installed on floors with lower installation heights. The three-layer construction also ensures greater dimensional stability and less gapping.
- Suitable for lower floor construction heights
- High dimensional stability even with slight temperature fluctuations
- High durability due to 4.5 - 6 mm wear layer, depending on total thickness
- Special formats up to 300 mm width and 10 m length possible
- Top layer can be sanded multiple times
- A high-quality floor with a middle layer and backingl made of rift-cut spruce wood, alternatively with hardwood backing
- Low gap formation and high dimensional stability
- Highest processing quality

Colouring and surfaces
Ash wood has a mix of yellowish- red colours and the darker heart wood, which makes for an exciting wood floor. Our Ash plank flooring is often treated with oils to enhance its natural beauty and create a unique finish. Oiling also protects the wood from UV radiation, which can cause it to darken over time.

Knot grading, texture and grain
Each tree has its own unique characteristics and qualities that make it special. When used as flooring, these characteristics can create a harmonious balance with the space and the people who use it.
The appearance of the plank floor is defined by the natural wood characteristics such as colour, knottiness and other features. To guarantee a high quality product, every tree and every plank is assessed and sorted according to our quality criteria. Knots and other defects are fixed and filled. This results in an even, beautiful surface.
Country Classic
The "Country Classic" grading has a healthy knot pattern with a higher number of knots, also depending on the total length and width of the floorboards. Natural colour differences may occur.
Urban Classic
The "Urban Classic" grading has a calm and elegant appearance, with few and small knots. The lack of knots provides a clean and sleek look, and the fine matured texture gives a sophisticated touch to the flooring.
